Welcome to Peppered Heart Studio
My name is Chris Threadwell. I live in Christchurch, New Zealand with my husband, Glen and our four Bichons. I have been blessed with a very encouraging husband and family who are also very understanding when I shut myself away for hours at a time in my studio either teaching or painting. Although I still work full time outside of home, my dream is to be able to say 'my art is my work, along with my passion'.
I have been painting in the Folk Art style since 1996 and began teaching in 1999. It has been quite a journey as I have painted many different styles that other teachers and designers have put into magazines and pattern packets. In the past couple of years, I have been developing my own style; I hope others will enjoy as much as I do. I love to paint bears and have developed a style that I can call my own. Many of these have made their way into Pattern Packets which are available for purchase. Please visit My Designs to view packets that are currently available and check back often to see new works that have been added.
Most of my painting is done using Jo Sonja Acrylics or Americana Acrylics, and I find they suit me fine. I would like to try pastels as another medium but realize I will have to venture away from the Folk Art style and find another that suits me.
One of the things I find about the Folk Art people I have met worldwide over the years is they are extremely encouraging, which is what I strive for when I am teaching. My students believe strongly in the 'boot fairy', as did I when I was learning. I learned pieces painted in class looked nothing like the tutor's work but always looked so much better at home where there is nothing to compare them to. This made me strive much harder to become as good as my tutor.
In May 2012 I decided to try Paverpol and went on to the tutor's course which has given me the ability to share yet another passion with others. One of the things I love about using Paverpol is that I can enhance the finished product using Jo Sonja paints therefore combining two of my passions.
Thank you for visiting. I hope you enjoy my website, and please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.
